Erich S. Huang, MD, PhD is vice president of Research Informatics and Chief Research Informatics Officer at Advocate Health and Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where he is building the enterprise clinical and research informatics architecture for one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems. He joined in March 2026 from Verily (formerly Google Life Sciences), where he led health data science initiatives spanning genomics, machine learning, and clinical operations. Before Verily, he co-founded Duke Forge with Rob Califf and served as its co-director — establishing one of academic medicine’s first dedicated health data science centers and, in that capacity, contributing to national conversations on AI governance and clinical data standards through the National Academy of Medicine’s Leadership Consortium.

He completed his MD and PhD in Genetics at Duke, trained in general surgery, and holds an AB in history and literature from Harvard. His current work centers on a question he has pursued across every institutional context: what it would take for clinical information to reliably support the right decision, for the right patient, at the right moment.
